FEEDBACK

I think your newsletter offers an opportunity for kids to be aware of what is happening in the world without all the graphic detail found in traditional media

This newspaper is in many circumstances the only reading material the learners and educators have access to. Please keep up the good work as we use these newspapers in all our classrooms in the Sedibeng district.

I am a Senior Education Specialist at the GDE. I support educators teaching English and Afrikaans. I give the newspaper to all the educators in my district to use in their classrooms.

Most of the people I give the newspaper to does not have access to the Internet. That is +/- 30 000 (150 schools with +/-200 learners in the Senior Phase). I estimate that it can even be more.

I find your articles are very suitable for comprehensions. I prefer them to any text book as they are topical and extend reading and knowledge I pass relevant hard copies of articles and worksheets to the Junior grades – 2/3 (Approximately 26 other children and two teachers. THANK YOU for all you do – this publication adds value to my teaching.

Worksheets: Absolutely – I particularly like the Maths ones

Found this form of reading the newspaper and staying up to date with current events hugely beneficial. My children watch eNews, but obviously not always appropriate for my son in Grade 4.

I work for a rural development NGO- 4 integrated pillars of focus - Self Help, Education, Positive Health & Economic Development – Learn the News is printed and taken to a Rural School where they are taught in a multi grade system so it is really helpful to have work sheets to work from. The children love the worksheets and have so much fun.

The worksheets are a great help to the teachers since there are only 2 of them with 7 grades and they have not received their class 1 and 2 workbooks from the Dept. of Education yet!!

Learn the News is a great initiative and a wonderful resource for us.

Very good articles. Makes good activities for teachers without Resources. I give to about 50 schools, so it's a lot. I use it in workshops when I am with Literacy/ Language/ library teachers.

Used as extension and remediation in an "academic extension" programme for G6, 7 pupils from three disadvantaged schools- completed as" homework". Usually we estimate 3 people per copy we make LTN has been a wonderful crutch- the knowledge that we have work we can fall back on, that is apposite, relevant, correct is liberating in planning and implementing our programme.

As a remedial school, Learn the news plays an important role in providing high interest/easy text for children who struggle with reading. Our teachers find the worksheets most valuable.

Learn the News is very useful that it has aroused interest of all community members of our school. It keeps us informed of the current news in and outside our country. It keeps our learners interested in working on the worksheets because they are designed in an attractive manner with illustrations.

Keep up the good work. Thank you. Ms Kgoroba (Principal)

Great part of our school week. Kids enjoy it very much. There is a lot for the younger children to read, so each week I just pick out certain parts of it.

I find it a wonderful newsletter and read it through every time; it's very interesting, particularly the "today in history" section. It provides a goldmine of information. The illustrations are very cute.

My kids can't wait for the newspaper. They have improved their general knowledge and are able to keep up with the day to day news without being exposed to the negative side of news. I think this is also contributing in installing a positive attitude to their country.

I am in a hospital working at a Gynaecologist room we give it to all our new moms as well as leave a copy in our waiting room for parents and patients to read.

Yes to my domestic and she takes it to her children's schools in Daveyton Benoni (4 copies)

I use Learn the News selectively, as I use it during the library period. But the children have learnt a great deal since using it, they look for the countries on the map before we begin, discuss the topic and also try to find additional information in the rather elderly books in the library. Discussion is usually quite interesting, lots of questions are posed and I have also had a great insight into how these children see the world. Most of them find the worksheets quite a challenge. Although all the children are taught in English, they are still not as proficient as mother tongue English speakers. I find Sipho on Thursdays worksheet is easier for them to understand
